
People with physical and mental disabilities should not be left outside this magnificent fiesta called the EURO 2012 final to be hosted in Ukraine and Poland. That was the main point of a meeting with representatives of Polish fund for rehabilitation of the disabled chaired by the head of EURO 2012 Executive Board Ivan Fedorenko and President of Paralympics Committee of Ukraine Valeriy Sushkevych.
“EURO 2012 as highly important driving force for sports development should involve far more people with disabilities, - Valeriy Sushkevych noted. – Together with FFU we are to fulfill two tasks in the framework of EURO 2012. Firstly, we need to organize a chain of football events dedicated to this special occasion with the handicapped sportsmen participating in. Secondly, we need to make everything necessary to provide the rights and needs of fans with special needs”.
At the meeting it was suggested to originate a chain of international competitions to let children with special needs participate in them. For instance, there was an idea to hold a show match between Polish and Ukrainian teams with the handicapped players in the framework of Generation 2012 tournament.
President of Polish Fund for rehabilitation shared his ideas regarding the issues of involving the handicapped into the process of the EURO 2012 preparation and organizing. In particular, his department worked out the project of enabling legislation that would assist people of this category in employing at objects and structures having to do with continental competition.
“A very essential point, - he proceeded, - consists in building a special infrastructure at necessary level, that is specific doorways, elevators, lifts, lavatories, etc”. For Ukraine, frankly speaking, it’s quite a serious problem. That’s why, the head of FFU Executive Board of EURO 2012 offered creating a position of a special expert that would follow the way EURO 2012 organizers keep the rights of the handicapped
