Victor Prokopenko dies

Ukrainian football community has suffered great loss. On 18 august died Viktor PROKOPENKO, aged 62. Esteemed and highly regarded football coach, Member of Parliament and simply a very nice person, devoted to football. Shakhtar fans will always remember Viktor Prokopenko as a coach who led the Miners to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in the Orange-black team’s history. For a long spell of time Mr Prokopenko had worked as the club’s sporting director. Once MP, Prokopenko always maintained contact with Shakhtar and tried to attend all matches of the Donetsk team. Today we are saying goodbye to more than just a coach, sportsman and public figure. We are saying goodbye to a whole football epoch. His name is engraved in our minds. He was a believer and we are sure that now Viktor Prokopenko is in better world. Rinat Akhmetov, Shakhtar management, Club’s employees as well as coaching staff, players and fans mourn for Viktor Prokopenko. Our condolence is with his family and friends.
